Meet the Principal

“Am I good enough? Yes I am.” – Michelle Obama
Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! As we continue to emerge from this stressful pandemic, we look forward to welcoming you all back into the building. With the grand opening of the new extension, we welcome 3K students and families to PS 131 Queens and the return of our kindergarten students to the building.

The long-awaited opening of the new extension has finally arrived, and I’m thrilled to share this experience with you. Planning and preparing for this extension has been in motion for over 4 years, with the goal being to create additional seating capacity and modernization. Ultimately, I want to preserve the amazing community we have built here at PS 131, while continuing to grow our student population and programs thanks to the amazing opportunities the new addition will provide.

In the coming months, I will facilitate monthly workshops geared toward self-care and social emotional well-being as well as many other topics of importance. These workshops will be held either in-person or virtually. Through this collaboration, we can establish a pathway for clear and consistent communication. An increased level of communication will result in improved academic success.

The new addition has the following to broaden student opportunities:
  • Art studio
  • Gymnasium
  • Exercise Room
  • Library
  • Dance Studio
  • Early Childhood Classrooms
  • Additional Student Cafeteria
  • Playground expected Spring 2023

I’d like to welcome new staff for the 2022-2023 school year!

  • Mr. Anthony Rea, Custodial Engineer
  • Mrs. Mahmoona Aslam, First Grade Teacher
  • Ms. Corrine Tully, Guidance Counselor
  • Ms. Alexia Espinoza, Bilingual Social Worker supporting the IEP Team
  • Mrs. Cara LaRosa, Art Teacher
  • Ms. Tara Drouin, Second Grade Teacher

I am truly honored to work for this amazing community and look forward to another school year with safety and social emotional wellness as top priorities. Be sure to follow exciting PS 131 news on our social media sites on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter at “ps131q.”

Sincerely,

Veronica de Paolo
